Our new Frizzle babies.....
Here I am an hour or so ago trying to get my new babies to go to sleep. They had other ideas.
Just like any baby. LOL.
Unfortunately Wendy hasn't taken to the new babies too well, so I'm bringing them in during the day. Luckily at night, she doesn't seem to notice and they have a lovely warm nest and sleeping area.
The best part about this is how friendly they've become over the day. When I leave the room, they follow me to the door and start chirping REALLY loudly. It's so cute.
They also respond to my voice, coming up to me when I chat to them. When they do want to sleep, they come up to my legs and snuggle in.
I've got to say I'm enamoured by these littlies. Just too cute for words.
The yellow one is mine. I'm still working out a name. There are two black frizzles. One is big and fluffy the other teeny in comparison. They are called Frizzy and Tiny. Matt has Tiny, Sarah has Frizzy. The brown one we haven't named. It's a boy. We're not getting attached. Any names grateful received. I've promised Dan the first polish frizzle when we go ahead with our new plan.
They love to snuggle. Like they would with a mother. They cuddle into my hands, my legs, and will go to sleep. It's lovely.
PS: And yes, that is poop on my shirt! Sigh.
PPS: I'm trying to grow my fringe out and it's driving me INSANE! Thus the borrowed headband from Sarah. LOL!

Frizzles
Today I went and picked up our frizzle chicks. I got 4. There were two more there, but we think they are half silkie so I didn't want them.
The little brown one on the right is definitely a boy. After putting him in with the 'big' chicks (I think our original chicks must be a week or so older?), I found him doing the male bobbing / fighting thing. I think he's definitely a boy.
The little white chick has fitted right in with everyone. I'm thinking she's a girl? She has a mother who lays green eggs and is part Aruacana so the lady said she thinks she'll be similar and may lay green eggs too. How cool would that be? A frizzle and a green egg layer!!!!!
The two little black ones I'm not sure about. I think they are girls. There is no fighting going on but Wendy doesn't like them. She is pecking at them. So I'm not sure what's going on there? And in fact it's one more than the other.
Tonight I went out and the little white one and the brown one were already under Wendy and I couldn't see her. I'm figuring they're fine. Grin. The two black ones were out and about and Wendy pecked at one of them again. I popped them under her and all was fine.
I'm going back out to check shortly to make sure they are ok. It's cold and wet out there and I want to ensure they are ok!
We don't have names yet. We haven't really sat down to talk about it. Crazy huh?! I think the kids and I will talk about this over breakfast tomorrow.
Matt had a lovely time holding the little brown one this afternoon. He was going to have him. Then we saw that he is a boy. Bother!
The two black chicks have 5 toes and black skin. So they may be silkies too. But they also have feathers on their feet. They look similar to a Langshan.
We are going to have an interesting time with these chicks and if we get more than one girl, you may be interested in having one? They are so cute so far!

Foot drop sexing theory
Foot Drop Sexing Theory from Vicky Gibson on Vimeo.
I checked an older girl (John) last night and she dropped her feet too.
Sarah has read that if they fight it (like Navjot in the vid) they are more likely boys and feet held up to chest are supposedly boys too.
This theory was reversed for Grandmas chicks so Im interested to see how it pans out for these babies.

A few of our babies
I've finally taken some time to take some pictures....
Our campine
A barnevelder
And a white orpington
We are loving these littlies. Still to give most of them names. Sarah has named one of the Barnevelders Chocie and one Barney. The Langshan was meant to be Chocie, but it's blue, so she's rethinking it's name. Grin.

Update day 2 - McClunes
Thought I'd share a couple of wee videos I've taken. The first just shows a few of them up front. One is a Barnevelder, the other a white orpington and I think the other is an araucana.
And here is a wee one taking his/her first bite to eat.
It's either the Langshan or the Araucana. I think it's the langshan?
I've got to take some time out to see them all and work out who is who!!!!

Hatch #2 Day 21
This morning we went out to see Lucy and found 3 eggs had pipped over night, the barred rock, the blue orp and the BLWyandotte. (pictured above)
We also found a newly hatched Mumford, Arlos chick a buff orpington. ( I need to cut my revolting fingernails!)This is the black orpington, all going well (meaning if the barne hatches to be Kayas Navjot) this chick will be magda
Hatch #2 day 20 pm
This photo was taken at 230pm. that hole is in the Black Orp #1 egg
and this, Buff orp #1 pipped. this is Arlos 'Hazel' chick.
We moved Luce into the garage to wait out the impending 'weather bomb' and hoped to meet more babies in the morning

McClune eggs Day 20
All day I've been waiting and watching. It started early. There were no pips, but this time when I listened, I could hear them tapping away. I think it is one of the most amazing sounds ever.
Coming back after bootcamp, I listened again. This time I could hear cheeping too. At least 3 babies were cheeping, and more were tapping.
Then I had to go and help at the school sausage sizzle. WHAT! LOL.
On the way home, I got a message from Vicky saying her Black Orpington had a pip. Blow me down when I got home, we had two pips too. Our Araucana and the campine too.
The campine is at the top.
Just checking now, the wee Langshan has pipped too. OMG! I forgot how amazing this day and process is. Back later with more news. Hopefully.

Hatch #2 day 20
I decided yesterday to bring home the eggs Nancy had been sitting on for us. I was just worried they would pip and hatch before I could bring them to Lucy and she might not want them. When we got to Sarahs the Blue orpington had a massive pip. It definitely came from inside the shell but there was blood on the crack. A quick google from Trina and we learnt that all could be well. I took the 3 eggs (THANKS NANCE!) and put them under Lucy. When I checked at about 7pm Luce had 'helped' the chick out and I noticed alot of blood. I had a look and the chick hadnt made it through the hatch. could be lots of things, sad but part of the process and we've been lucky to hatch so many to this point without this happenening.
Its now 12:14pm on Friday. No more pips from here but I can hear all 3 of the orps Luce sat on (#1's) cheeping very very loudly. It actually sounds like there are day old chicks in the nest! Luce is in there talking away quietly to them. Im hoping by late this afternoon we will have pips.
We are down to 9 eggs now,
2x buff orp
2x black orp
1x barred rock
1x blue orp
1x gold/blue laced wyandotte
1x blue laced wyandotte
1x barnevelder
